| partners | | forecast sunday was for 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms
we had a couple options, but we all wanted to check out west baldy as first choice
planned to go as far as weather, time and how everyone felt allowed
easy going for several miles, hiking above and along the west fork of the little colorado
through several meadows, then into pine forest
made one creek crossing over some logs, then at the five mile mark, discussed continuing
blue skies were mixed with any clouds, so we all wanted to at least go to the saddle
the last couple miles are at a slightly steeper grade, but nothing too difficult
found wild raspberries along the way
saw several people and one cool dog that was part wolf
went through an interesting area littered with blown down trees
i've read there can be a lot of logs across the trail, but we only climbed over one
weather held upon reaching the saddle, so mary jo, wade and i went for the summit
passed the reservation boundary, where i had stopped previously after hiking up the east fork trail in 2007
there's been plenty of discussion on hiking to the true summit, and we chose to do it
a well worn path leads to the top, which is almost a mile past the saddle
great views of the white mountains
headed down, picked up angela, and started talking about the pie we would have later at the bear wallow cafe
easy cruise down with clearing skies
very happy we went for it as i had been wanting to do that side and the baldy loop and have now done all of the parts except for the connector trail
would like to go up the east fork again
good company and a nice effort by my hiking partners
this hike was the highlight of the weekend for me, closely followed by the homemade blackberry pie ala mode
