| no partners | | This was an overnight trip on the lake. It has a lot more water in it than my last two trips there. We paddled up the "dam arm" and past the dam. Found a campsite, and with no small difficulty got our boats hoisted onto the rocks, and our gear up to the camp. All the boat-in camps along the shoreline are up on bluffs and require hauling gear up rough trails to get to them. However, the result is a gorgeous camp on flat ground. From what I can see, most of the camps are similar.

It occurred to me that a backpacker could also make use of these campsites. The further you get from the launch ramp the cleaner the camp is likely to be. We stopped at one and decided against it because it was dirty and had beer bottles and cans in the campfire ring. It also smelled of poo. So, we paddled on.
We lucked out, also, on the weather. It sprinkled a little bit and it seemed there were thunderstorms all around us but our spot avoided the direct hit. The temperature was very pleasant the entire time. A really nice mini-adventure!
We saw some water birds including a merganser with 3 babies in tow. Great blue herons, osprey, ravens, vultures, etc. |
