Yep we all pronounced it like it sounded like sequin. Then last year a couple of ladies came into our biz and they were from Squim. It took us a moment to realize it was Sequim. They said we should see it because it has the longest coastal spit in the continental United States. Holy snickers that sounds like an awesome place to go and after a short web search on what a spit was, I admit it dropped a notch or two on the wow factor, but some day we'll check it out.
Well we decided on this trip to push the fun envelope and go see Squim uhh Sequim and the Dungeness Spit woo hoo! We'll take the ferry to Bainbridge Island wonder a couple of roads to connect us to the 101 and when we get to Sequim we'll get off at Kitchen-Dick.....get off where? It seems Kitchen-Dick is kinda famous and especially the intersection with Woodcock. So our road trip begins with the Dungeness Spit on Kitchen-Dick. The spit is eleven miles round trip with a 130' AEG, yep feel the burn on this. We made it to the 4.5 mile mark and realized the tide was coming in. This meant we would have to hike a fair distance crawling the logs on the back of the spit spine if we went all the way to the lighthouse. The estuary side was closed because of nesting so we had to stay on the open ocean side. Oh well we had seen our fair share of spit and we've seen lighthouses before so no biggie. Great day being with our son and seeing a new area. We were just north of the Olympics and they are majestic like the Rockies. I tried to shoot a photo but too hazy. |
