Hmmm I say to myself. So according to GE there is a road coming from the west side onramp from Badger Springs up to the mesa. So this rainy Sunday morning seemed like a good time to check this out. While going north the freeway signs say accident ahead and just before we get to the top of Black Mesa I notice the southbound is stopped. So it appears my decision to check out this area was good since the freeway was stopped both ways. We parked by the freeway and hiked in on the road. It had rained pretty good and was still spittin with a light mist. Boy did it smell great and boy howdy all those folks sitting there on the freeway ain't happy. After about a mile and half we realized the clay like mud and dry straw was starting to seriously build up on our boots to the point they were becoming adobe snowshoes. We finally made it to the mesa rim and proceeded to quest for Native stuff. Soon pottery was everywhere and then a small village with quite a few planting terraces. Three, yes three petros, not enough trouble to photograph. We know there are more and we'll find them someday, but not today. The sun broke out and we were magically transported to the Ecuadorian rainforest, although sans forest and Ecuadorians. It became apparent that 2/3 of our party had well, left the party. So another trip awaits us here when the temps drop. I know there are petros here, I can feel it. |
