| no partners | | I followed this group around for about 45 minutes. Its a small outcast band. Typically small groups like this will join the larger primary bands later in the evening. The first 15 minutes was spent getting them comfortable being around me. I was amazing close to them this time. The gray stallion didn't trust me initially. The stallion never does. He confronted me at least once.. He made me nervous. Especially when I got too close to the little guy. He finally excepted me. Seeing them live free in the wild is so different. They are amazing. Spent a bit of time with them and you'll see. You really have to experience them first hand to fully understand.
Yes there is a problem.. Yes there are too many of them. I get that. I though to myself how hard it would be to kill these beautiful animals after getting to know them. The stallion, the mares, the baby.. I can't even image it. Killing hundreds of them is incomprehensible. Its a tough situation.. How do you make such a decision? I'm glad its not my decision to make. I just couldn't do it.

Update 09/06/2015: Recent trips within the area have completely changed my view on this issue. If the forest wants to save the river, they should eliminate the tubers. The humans are the only menace on that river. The horses should be left alone. |
