We really wanted to see some color, but had two plans for the day.
One if it was gonna rain all day, and one if it looked decent.
When we met up in the AM, storms looked spotty so, Mingus was the destination.

We started low, clockwise from the NW, passed by the frontier Cemetery and started the climb and traverse of Mingus. We passed through pockets of Big toothed Maples, Ash, Arizona Walnut, Aspen, Sumac, all in varying stages of the change.

A steady rain started on the north traverse of Mingus on the #105a and continued 45 minutes into the #106 Viewpoint Trail. It was cold and windy at times, as well fog obscuring the views off and on.

Up top, the rain now stopped, the sun came out. We hit the Coleman #108 where you can normally get some good views to the East, but it was mostly obscured.

The #9037, Gaddes Canyon Two Trail is a favorite in the area. It's a 3 mile, 1500' climb to the top. It's mainly tree covered and there are a few spots that let you catch your breath.

We stopped and had our lunch at the hang glider ramp. 5 minutes in we donned the umbrellas to finish lunch. I looked off to the south and you could see a heavy wave of rain moving in. We got up and looked for some cover under a tree.

Thunder, lightning, hail and rain continued for 20 minutes. The trail turned to a river. When we got cold enough, we started again in a drizzle, following the stream downhill. We originally planned a slightly bigger loop to the east on the mountain top, but with the weather, we cut it shorter.

The rain stopped, rainbows appeared, and a murder of crows followed us for quite awhile back to the truck.

Another memorable Mingus meander...
