reavis ranch has been on my wish list for awhile, as i have wanted to explore some of the eastern trails in the superstitions
was happy to be able to tag along with az wandering bear, azbeaver and oregon hiker on mary jo's first ever backpack
wade's itinerary:
monday - drive to roger's canyon trailhead, hike to roger's canyon ruins and camp near trailhead
tuesday - hike into reavis ranch
wednesday - circlestone and mound mountain
thursday - hike out
a two night backpack and two classic hikes :)
after reassembling our packs tuesday morning, we got going about 9:00 and headed to reavis ranch
great weather and a good trail
took a lunch break at the saddle, then a gradual descent into the ranch
dropped our packs to look for the perfect campsite and explore the area
ended up near the cattle chute at a site with a large fire ring and some logs to sit on
almost every campsite had some kind of garbage or equipment left by the previous occupant :?
as others have said, no apples at all
beautiful area, and we enjoyed an almost full moon
no fire the first night, but we did have one after our hike the second night
no critters, except for one whitetail on the way out
saw one party camped nearby the second night, and another as we hiked out
woke to light rain showers wednesday night, and increasing rain at daybreak thursday
even a bit of lightning as wade and larry rigged a tarp so we could pack up
luckily the rain stopped and we hustled to get moving
larry stayed a few extra nights, and we were hoping he didn't get pounded by the storm we drove through
random thoughts:
i've only backpacked a few times, so i'm always looking to lighten the load while making sure I have what I need
mary jo and wade had some nice deserts and appetizers that they shared
larry donated a couple of batteries to my gps, and i left him my sawyer squeeze, which was running more efficiently than his
mary jo was a rock star on her first time with a heavy pack and leaving the comforts of car camping behind
she led the way out quickly enough that we had time to backtrack to miami for mexican food at guayo's el rey (my second visit in a week  )
drove through a pretty good storm and would not have wanted to be out in it :o
great group, a good hike to circlestone and mound mountain, lots of good conversation and i learned a few things from larry and wade
a very enjoyable experience :) thanks y'all!
