I've been wanting to get back on this trail for a while. This was unplanned until about 5mins before I let someone know where I was going and headed out the door. As expected, the creek was flowing at a good rate. Temps were absolutely perfect in the low 60s and abundant sunshine. This trail offers a little bit of everything. From desert to pines with some creek crossings, boulder hopping and some route finding along the way. The slow going helped my to really enjoy the scenery and take plenty of photos. There appears to have been recent trail work for about the first 3 miles up the canyon in addition to all the cairns. I wisely wore pants but my arms got pretty shredded by catclaw and everything else. I went 4 miles up and turned around. The last half mile was at the snow line and the trail became riddle with patches of ice. Once back down at the creek I stopped for a nutrition break and a quick dip into a pool. The water was not as cold as I thought it would be. It felt like a spring day in the Mazzies. I saw a few butterflies, a few Wildflowers and swarms of flying bugs. There were dozens of cattle as well. About a mile in I met a nice couple having a creekside lunch and watering their horses but otherwise I enjoyed total solitude. On my return through the gate on Deer Creek Trail #45 I found the gate was knocked off the hinges and several cattle had made their way down to the TH.
