I was curious about the condition of FR284 because I want to start doing the Drew to See loop again, so I took the youngster on a little adventure. He needed some trail therapy anyway. Turns out FR284 is in great shape and free of mud, ice and errosion. The hike itself was not so smooth. Christopher Creek is flowing strong which made 2 of our 3 crossings pretty scetchy with a 6yr old. One of which required me to take shoes off and wade in almost waist deep water while helping him walk across a log. The trail isn't much of a trail at all right now. In just the 2+ miles we hiked up canyon we encountered tons of new deadfall. There were a few small patches of snow/ice but the rest was mud. There's also some intrusive locust. We turned around before the steep stuff really started and found a camp spot to get a small fire going and eat lunch. Weather was beautiful so we stayed for an hour and soaked it up. On the way back we wandered down See Spring #185 briefly before crossing again and finishing back at the TH. Didn't see any other cars or anyone else on the trails today. Did see plenty of wild strawberry sprouts already.
