This was the third full hiking day of a solo 4 night, 5 day camping trip in Cherry Creek Canyon, Sierra Ancha. Although locating this small cliff dwelling had not originally been in my plan for this trip, I couldn't resist what sounded like a challenge from MntBart01 in his comment on a recent unsuccessful ruin hike Grasshopper and I went on in the SA. His comment was something to the effect " I'm surprised you guys haven't looked for the small ruin below v:136". I knew he had made a couple of unsuccessful attempts to find this one which just sweetened the challenge. However in his defense, his searches were short, lower priority side trips on hikes to find much more significant cliff dwellings in this canyon.

Two days earlier on another hike I took some high zoom photos of prospective sites from across the canyon. That's actually when I found the ruin, this was just a hike to the site to get a closer look and verify that it matched Lange's description in his book "Echoes in the Canyons: ....." The site was well hidden from a ground approach behind some rock outcroppings that stuck out from the face of the cliff - probably why MntBart01 didn't find it even though he came within 240 feet of it on his "Sierra Ancha Blood Donation" hike. After some careful scrutiny of the long distance photos taken two days ago I finally located it. It turned out to be the smallest cliff dwelling I've seen in the SA. Oh well, it was a worthwhile hike just to be able to cross it off my list and of course any hike in one of the magnificent side canyons off of Cherry Creek is a reward in itself.
