| no partners | | I put my brand-new kayak in at the "free" put-in on the south end of the lake. It was a bad idea. Okay if there are two people to carry boats to the water, but hard to tote a 50-pound boat down there by myself. As I was doing this, using my kayak cart on the rough, rocky trail (which would have caused a lot of amusement had anyone been there to watch)a storm was brewing.
No sooner had I gotten myself launched I heard thunder, but it was far off. I paddled across the lake. The thunder kept up and was getting closer.
I don't think I paddled a total of 3/4 mile once I had hurried back to the shore and repeated the whole process of getting that boat back up to my vehicle. The rain really cut loose on me as I loaded the boat onto the top of the Jeep. I was very muddy and wet by the time I got it tied down and ready to go. (Yes I did put on a rain jacket, but with the humidity, what's the point?)
The saving grace of this micro-mini-adventure were several photos I took while on the lake. I thought they turned out rather well. Oh, and next time I'm paying the $8 to launch at the boat ramp! |
