| partners | | got to tag along on denny's first trip up quartz 
jj drove us in from the south - shorter and quicker, 4wd needed
set out a little before 8:00
steady grade on the ascent
the trail follows a ridge, providing great views of both rainbow valley and the estrella ridgeline
topped out on quartz to a unique summit
along the way, jj was pitching a side trip to butterfly, and all of us were in
not a bad traverse and I realized that was because there was very little scree
some ups and downs on good rock at times but some sticker bushes to negotiate in places
a good scramble up to the highest point of butterfly with a couple spots to practice climbing
a different perspective of the estrellas from here
we all made it down safely, then went over to the east wing
after a short break, headed back down and across to the base of quartz
easy enough descent once we reached the trail
third time up to quartz and I still love this hike
butterfly was a nice addition to make the drive worthwhile
a new peak for me, and now i'd like to hit montezuma and montezuma sleeping
don't need to do the entire ridgeline or anything 
nice to hike with linda for the first time
stopped in maricopa for some tacos on the way home
fun day with good company |
