Took the Rough N Ready Trail to Quartz Crystal Trail and returned down the Javelina to the Rough N Ready and back to the start point. A search on the internet (MTBikeAZ.com) gave me some different names for these trails but I will stick with the ones given on HAZ. The MTBikeAZ site actually has all the trails in the Goldfields and is a pretty good reference. I was going to do descriptions of these trails by those names but I think it would add confusion. Some may think I was stepping on toes by changing names. Any way the site is there if you want to check out the various trails. (Not as much info as the HAZ site though)
On with the hike. Gotta love the Goldfield Mountains at sunset. They pack a lot of scenery for very little effort. Did see my second rattlesnake of the year on this hike, this one was living. Saw Checkmate Arch at just the right time while the sun was setting behind them. Wish I was a better photographer, couldn't get the right settings for the time allotted. Took a little longer to do this hike because I kept stopping to get pictures but then it got me to checkmate arch at just the right time. There was no one else on the trail probably because it was 88 degrees out. |
