Stopped at the Cottonwood Windmill and loaded up on water (both troughs were completely full and the windmill kept pumping it out), but had to share with bees and wasps. Some clouds were building to the north and east, so I was hoping for some rain to cool things off. Spent some time at Mud Spring Trough, but completely dry, so followed the pipe north to the really cool spring. There was about 1/4" of incredibly neon green sludge at the bottom, and didn't realize there was lots of water below that. Set up camp in Reavis canyon, up on a cushy, sandy flat spot about 5 feet above the wash, surrounded by large rocks. At 6:30 or so, the rain started nicely at first. About an hour later, it was raining so hard my poor tent couldn't keep the water out. The wash started running pretty heavily. Thankfully the water stayed below my protective boulders. The rain finally stopped, and the water started to recede at around 9:30. Upside to the rain was there was plenty of water to filter! Got an early start on Sunday for the long trek up Montana Mountain. It was so gorgeous at the top, and then the delightful walk down FR 650. Finished out the second day in 3 hours. |
