| no partners | | Thumbs up! First hike (solo too) of 2017 and first time on this trail. I meant to do only Tom's Thumb but then I saw the sign for 'The Lookout', and thought to check that one out first too. Actually I missed the sign that goes to Tom's Thumb and ended up going straight and found the sign for the The Lookout. 0.5 miles, not too bad.
The trail was busy, young, old, four legged friends, only encountered 1 group with a boombox.
Gravely up until I got to the Lookout, the trail turned into more a more rocky, narrow trail. I was hoping that there would be an actual sign that marks the Lookout and there was one, otherwise I would have kept on going and going. Sweeping views all around, not super windy, loved the cool breeze at the top. instagram.com/p/BPD ... nenk.
No one else on top for the first few minutes I spent there, 3 groups by the time I left. Got lost shortly after leaving the Lookout and managed to quickly turn around and find the trail.
I decided to check out Tom's Thumb on the way back, turns out that's where most people stop.
No rock climbers that day.
The trail itself was in pretty good condition, not used to such gravely terrain.
Somewhat steep in places so I ended up being propelled to a jog downhill. Overall an enjoyable hike, I could imagine doing this a few more times before the temps soar. |
