| no partners | | This past weekend I was diagnosed with strep throat. The doctor said I couldn't return to work until Tuesday. I woke up Monday morning feeling revived and decided to make the most of a sick-day. Inspired by the Eagle and the one and only Joe Bartels, I headed off to the Barnhardt trail to see Big Kahuna Falls.
This was my first hike in the Mazatzals, ever. Turns out I went to the right place at the right time. This trail is graded rather gently and the elevation gain felt easy. I also can not believe how much water there was, everywhere you look. I could hear Barnhardt Creek flowing within the first half mile of hiking from the TH. I'm assuming that there's no surface water anywhere around here come late June.
I had to hurry back on the descent because I had one more stop to make on my day off! (see General Crook XC ski)
This was a great first taste of the Mazatzals! I will definitely be back. |
