We reached the NW corner of Carlson's Hidden Valley Loop hike where there are great long distance views to the north.
The loop hike then heads up and south. We were near our turnaround time so we retraced our steps back to camp and then to the Peralta trailhead.
The two areas with cattails were a big surprise. The only rain in months had been a quarter inch a week earlier. I wish I had brought back a water sample to see if the water was heavily mineralized from evaporation. The cattails seem to indicate that the ground around the rock pools has at least stayed moist through a couple of dry years. |
