| no partners | | I uploaded my GPS track but Joe's description will be more useful. It's easier to head towards the "Fragile Arch" and pick your own path than follow a GPS track.
A couple of tips:
- When you're looking South from Joe's "Saddle 2750", find the large Saguaro in the left hand (smaller ravine). Today there was a cairn next to it. That's where you want to head. There's a confusing maze of paths between the saddle and that cairn. The one I used dropped down and then came back up. The tree that Joe mentions having to crawl under is just south of this Saguaro.
- You'll notice a spot on GPS track where I wandered around near the turn East to peak 3509, I wasn't lost--I was having problems finding a route through the jungle. You should be able to pick a route from the mess.
- If I was to do this again, I wouldn't head up or down the ravine to 3509. The effort isn't worth the reward. It's much easier to take the route I used along the west bank and then up to the saddle connecting 3509 and Geronimo Peak. It's an easy gradual climb with lots of open routes. The last 25% is somewhat steeper.
WARNING
Someone gave me a $75 parking ticket. Probably the Forest Service since the ticket mentions the Federal District Court. I parked in the parking area with the hitching post just East of Tortilla Flat. The ticket says it's mile marker 214.1 The road to the parking shows no sign of ever being blocked off and there aren't any signs. I and others have parked here for years. |
