This is a good winter day hike because it stays at the lower elevations of the Santa Rita Mountains and I doubt there is any water after late spring (except monsoons). The Temperatures in winter are pleasant and probably hot as H**l in the summer. Nice close up views of Elephant Head rock with rewards of cool water in Chino Creek at the end of hike. This hike is a fairly level hike (I'm surprised the GPS said I had an AEG of 1000 feet)and is nice when you want to take a down day on hiking. trail head can be accessed at end of proctor Road and 4WD isn't required.
