| partners | | got started at 7:30am from the Molina Basin TH towards Bear Canyon. We made excellent time along this entire hike even with more elevation gain than we initially expected, which still wasn't much.
On the way in, we encountered a lot of mountain bikers, although most of them were kids who looked under 16. Kudos to them because even going downhill on parts of that trail was pretty gnarly. Interesting to see kids that young with skill sets that I know I don't possess nearing 50.
After the Gordan Hiraybashi TH, the bikers were gone and we were mostly to ourselves. We made to the Bear Canyon TH and hiked a section of that trail that Joe and I did 2 months ago and headed back on the "unnamed" trail section that connects Bear Canyon and Sycamore Reservoir. On our way back we stopped at the reservoir and did the obligatory photos. the water was flowing, but slowly, and the water had a bad stink to it.
on the way up from there, we met new HAZ member @HikingFrank, who is a new resident from Pittsburgh and noted my obligatory Steeler gear. we talked for about 10 minutes or so and went on our way. I mentioned HAZ as a good source for info on doing new hikes and received a PM from him earlier tonight. He seems very enthusiastic to be in AZ discovering new trials.
we made it back to the Molino Basin TH with no issues and within 7 hours, including breaks. Nice to check out a new area down here and it wasn't such a killer hike like Pima Canyon a month ago. We still did have the "old man walk" out of the car at every pit stop on the way home, but it doesn't seem like worthwhile hike if you're not limping at least a little after you're done. |
