| no partners | | My original plan was to hike up in Cave Creek out to the 6L Ranch, but with the heat, I decided to opt for a hike that was a little shorter, a little easier, and closer to home so I could get an earlier start. I hiked the Malpais Trail once before 8 years ago, but I hadn't kept the track on my GPS, so this was also to do that.
I started from the Rock Peak Wash TH, and took the Rock Peak Wash Trail up to the Santan Trail. From there, I did a figure-8, going first counter-clockwise along the Malpais Trail, then clockwise along the Santan and Hedgehog Trails, ending back on the Rock Peak Wash Trail to the TH.
I saw only 2 other hikers the whole time, very early on. Saw quite a few bikers, as usual for a county park. The temperature really wasn't too bad. There were breezes the whole time, and there were enough clouds that it gave intermittent shade. Not seeing many people made it very peaceful along this remote area.
this hike gives me a total for this year so far that already exceeds my entire total for 2014, so getting back at it a bit more now. |
