| no partners | | On day 2 of my hiking trip I decided to go up on the rim and hike the higher elevation because weather was going to be unsettled tomorrow. I would hike lower down along the Arizona Trail #43 tomorrow where the chances of rain I thought would be less. Today's hike is along the southern half of Arizona Trail #40, Kaibab Plateau South. Last year I finished the northern Half from FSR 241 to FSR 213 and had to stop at FSR 213 due to closures of the trail south of FSR 213 because of the Fuller Canyon Fire. I start the hike at East Rim View and head north to FSR 213, then return and hike south to just short of FSR 610 (North creek near Sourdough Well). I will have to finish the last 2.5 miles of AT #40 on another day.
The Arizona Trail #40 is probably one of the most scenic trails of all the Arizona Trail. Grand canyon Inner Gorge ranks up there but it is a lot of work at times, whereas this is both scenic and what I consider a leisurely walk. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow but there are a lot of Tree falls from winter, especially as you approach North canyon. So many tree falls that the person I met riding a bike said she would be better off walking. I met two separate individuals through hiking the Arizona Trail and spent a few moments chatting with them.
The views from East Rim View are Spectacular. When I was 10 my father took us camping here and we camped right on the rim. Very memorable experience that I still remember vividly today. The Campsite hasn't changed that much in 53 years, just grown over a bit. |
