| no partners | | Decided to watch the fireworks show in Las Cruces this year. Sometimes I view them at the Space Museum in Alamogordo (my favorite) or at New Mexico Tech in Socorro (not bad...hey, they are experts at blowing things up ). I have enjoyed the show at Roswell too. If I am not in the mood for a long drive, I like the small town show at nearby Patagonia. Just another excuse for a road trip I guess you could say.
The other goal for this trip was to locate the book "Giovanni Maria de Agostini" by David Thomas. On a recent trip to Las Vegas, New Mexico to get a tour of Montezuma Castle, I stopped at Tome on the Range (great name for a bookstore ) on the plaza there, but they didn't have it. So I stopped at one of my favorite bookstores, Bowlin's Mesilla Book Center (another great place also located on a town plaza) and they had a copy. I expected that, as this was the last place the Hermit was before his murder. Interestingly, I first became aware of this unusual man many years ago up in the Las Vegas area, where he was living before heading down to around Las Cruces and met his demise.
Of course a big part of my road trips is to patronize eating establishments I like. And two of my favorites are in Mesilla: Andele and Andele's Dog House (across the street). Being as it was July 4th, I checked to see if they would be open. They were, but closed early at 3, so I made sure to get there in time. I enjoyed a fine meal and then it was off to check in to my motel, and later in the evening watch pyrotechnics. |
