| no partners | | On my way down to the Huachucas for a couple nights camping I routed via Highways 83 and 82 for the first time since the various fires scorched the area in the last month or so. Didn't look too bad in the grasslands, as they recover fast with the summer rains. On the way back I drove FR 62 through Box Canyon to the Madera Canyon Road. The evidence of fire was more dramatic here, especially toward the ignition point near West Sawmill Canyon and Santa Rita Ranch. Heavy rains in the last 24 hours made the drive more interesting than usual. The waterfall in Box Canyon was pretty awesome. When driving this road after monster downpours the worst spot to navigate is near the turnoff to Greaterville. No exception today. But the area over near Santa Rita Ranch had some serious runoff too, so had to be alert.
I was planning on a leisurely breakfast down at Carr Canyon this morning before heading home, but Mother Nature had other plans. I was out of the tent at 5:00 and just started getting the gear setup when it started raining. No wind, no thunder, just pesky rain. So I broke down the tent and threw all the wet gear in the truck and headed down the mountain. Of course the rain didn't last long, but knowing the active weather alerts, I decided not to take a chance. The saturated conditions and low clouds made for some nice photos though. Oh yeah, I cooked up that bacon, egg, and potato breakfast when I got home.
