| no partners | | Another late start. I hit the trail around 8am. I went counter clockwise . The very top seems to have a tiny reroute. There has been some trail maintenance on the first mile or so. loose dirt and a steep grade going down has you taking a lot of short steps on that mile. The mountain side to your right has a fair amount of Fall color splashed in. Views are pretty expansive also. A mile in and the grade has mellowed out. Another .25 mile or so and you hit a little saddle with views all the way to San Francisco Peaks with some Sedona red in the foreground. As you head around the mountain you see a fair amount of Oak with just a few Maple here and there. After a little over 2 miles you round the west side and start your climb. Going counter clockwise at a early hour puts you in the shade for the climb which is nice. By the time you get that 3rd mile in or a tad more you have pretty much topped out and your last mile or so is pretty flat with the last part on a road. While on top you also pass where the hang gliders jump off! Only my second time on this trail and I find it pretty enjoyable. |
