| no partners | | The track for this hike will be pretty much useless because the "trail" is a fully paved/rocked climb (with banisters on both sides) along the Juyongguan Section of the Great Wall. It is difficult to get off the wall anywhere along here. This section is about 32 miles NW of the center of Beijing and about 5 miles NW of Namkou off route G6. Probably the closest restored section from Beijing. Check Google Earth, but I included a screen grab showing my track.
This is a fun, touristy hike that everyone should do when visiting Beijing. Beware of the steep steps, some of which are 18+ inches high and very uneven in height. But we made it and were back to the bus before it left, which is a good thing because I don't have the Uber number for Nankou. Only about 1/4 of our tour group made it to Fortress 12, which is the highest guard station reachable along this section. |
