I got within 150 meters of the top, but the trails were obscured with close to a foot of snow and visibility sucked, so I passed on trying for the peak. Anyway, we don’t like cold weather.
We chose the easy option to get to our starting point, which was to take the gondola from the Passo Pordoi (the bottom of the gondola) up to Sasso Pordoi (the top of the gondola). That cuts out a lot of elevation and is the civilized thing to do, especially if it’s raining/snowing, which it was, depending on elevation. The Sella Group (of mountains) is located between Selva and Corvara in northeast Italy, a truly spectacular setting with lots of mountains, waterfalls, valleys, and white cliffs. I will also posted my track from my hike two days earlier, aborted because of the rain, from the pass to near the Rifugio Forcella Pordoi (if I can find it). The world renowned Alta Via 2 goes right through here. |
