| no partners | | Full disclosure: I didn't make it to Prominent Point, but my goal was to go only about half way in the first place. Didn't quite get halfway, but my two hiking buddies went all the way. The main reason for posting this is to recognize their accomplishment. Despite getting a 10:00 a.m. start, they made it all the way up along my previous track, then bushwhacked down to the Pima Canyon Trail, intersecting at about about the 2nd dam. The last two hours were in darkness. Neither of them have a GPS, but they love off trail stuff. They saw a possible drop-off point at about 12S 508531, 3580456 and went almost directly west to the 2nd dam. They described this way as difficult but at least shorter than the shindagger slugfest back down to the canyon below Rosewood Point, which is the traditional way up.
If you're interested in more details, I can put you in touch with them. All in all, the hike to the top is more of a one-and-done because it's not much fun. There are some good views from the point I turned around, but.... who needs the pain. I must be mellowing.
