The idea was to enjoy the day, get some exercise, and check out the drop-in point for Hose Canyon. Sounds simple, right? Not quite. From the get-go we had trouble finding the "trailhead" for the route we'd downloaded. There was no signage for the jeep road we were to follow (1827) and so, knowing the direction we were meant to travel, we headed out. After about 15 minutes, we checked our device and realized we weren't on the right road. So, we back-tracked to the vehicles. After searching around we found a second jeep road (again no signage) and assumed it to be the correct one. As before, we learned this was also not the correct road. ](*,) However, having gained some altitude at this point, we could now see the road we should have been traveling. We bush-whacked down a loose, sketchy hillside and made our way over to 1827. From there it was easy cruising. We didn't end up hiking the left arm of the "Y" since we'd already spent so much time on route-finding. Instead we just went out the right arm as from there we thought we'd have a view of Hose Canyon.

Along the way we enjoyed changing views of Black Cross Butte, Four Peaks, and the Ridgeline and, it being a jeep road, we weren't, for once (!), constantly on the look-out for thorny nasties. We lunched at the end of the "right arm" and tried to sort out the approach to Hose Canyon. It wasn't entirely obvious and will require more investigating.

All in all, we did accomplish our goals and learned the value of adapting to the situation at hand. Oh, and the smart idea of checking our GPS device closer to the outset.
