All this time and I had never hiked at all in Papago Park. I have been to the zoo and the fabulous botanical gardens but never had messed around near the buttes. So, on picnic day today we took the little dogs and first went to the Hole in the rock and climbed up there for the views and photos. My wife and I thought we were pretty good for our ages until we met an 86 year old woman who had just been up to the hole in the rock!! Wow. We then noted that the zoo parking lot was full and went across the highway to the park. Very beautiful with ramadas, nice trails and very clean. We lunched at a clean table and walked the trails around the buttes and again marveled that this beautiful park is in the center of Phoenix. The trail system does go all the way around the golf course but we did not want the little dogs to wear out.It makes a very nice loop.
