this one sounded great from write ups and recommendations and it was 
it's a popular trail with climbers and as part of the JMT
we found parking nearby on the road and the trail was not crowded at all
a good uphill for the first mile or so, then a more moderate grade and one more steeper section on slightly rocky trail
a minor drop into the lake area
very beautiful setting with cathedral peak on the east, a cirque to the south, and the lake stretching to the west
cool granite beach sloping into it
we walked to a point for photos and a break while john took a dip 
i couldn't do it 
went further west for a view into tenaya lake, then continued all the way around on a use trail
very enjoyable setting
long day, so we didn't go to the upper lake
eventually headed back, stopping for burgers and fries at tuolumne meadows grill before driving back to crane flat
