This hike circles Little Cat Mountain, and of course there are nice views of Cat Mountain as well. There are newer and extended trails in the area that aren't shown completely on the online maps, but the sign board at the trailhead is current. Also, at various junctions newer signs help out. Pleasant desert hiking abounds in Tucson Mountain Park, but you need to be heads up for mountain bikers who enjoy the area too (and have helped build some of the fun trails).
Update 11-26-2018: I didn't take any photos of the signs yesterday, because I thought I would find updated map info online. Since that wasn't the case, I went back out this morning and got a few, both at the Sarasota TH and at two spots along the trail I hiked. You can see from the latest signs, the Explorer Trail now extends from Kennedy Park all the way to the junction with the Sarasota Trail north of the trailhead (all of it follows previously existing trails). The westernmost portion is along an older, unnamed trail on the northern side of Little Cat Mountain. Also of note, what had been called the Beer Garden Trail is now shown as Little Cat Trail. Personally, I like Beer Garden better, and am sure trail runners and mountain bikers refer to it as such. |
