The parking lot was full as usual for this time of year when we arrived at 11 to 11:30. We did not have to wait and were able to immediately pick up an empty spot in the back 40.
The weather was cold (around 60 degrees) and a bit chilly, long sleeves were warranted.
There were two notable occurrences during the hike.
The Camelback Santa was in attendance at the summit handing out candy canes and posing for photo ops. He had lumps of coal and candy (depending on whether you were bad or good this year). The Christmas tree was also there and decorated with bird-friendly suet and other wildlife treats.
The second unusual occurrence was what appeared to be a helicopter rescue. During our descent a helicopter flew up to the summit. It seems someone got injured and needed to be airlifted out.
On the whole it was an enjoyable hike as usual and a good way to get back into things after the holiday. |
