| no partners | | | Finally a day without rain so I had to visit my go to hike when staying in our cabin located within the NRQZ. About 10 hikers coming down when I was on the way up. Potomac River running above average but not extreme. Always thought the fire road the horses use to come up from Yokums stables ended behind the viewing platform just like the trail but noticed today it may keep going. After timing myself to the viewing platform , 31 minutes, ignoring the warning signs scrambled up the rock formations of the famous fins to the the gunsight, the non equipment limit. Then went back and followed the previously unnoticed fire road which turned south to go up on a ridge above the view platform but only found minimal additional views due to vegetation. Returned via the usual main path , swung by the Sites homesite before returning to the visitors center. Lunch on the porch besides Yokums and a beautiful drive on Snowy Mountain Rd. from Germany Valley completed the day. |
