Managed to get moving about 0830, took Discovery trail first over to Siphon Draw Trail in order to make a loop and finish on Treasure Loop trail ,looks like the new additional parking for Siphon Draw Trailhead is finished. Appears the detour to Siphon Draw Trail is becoming permanent in order to move traffic away from the new cabins. Getting a little warm heading up to Siphon Draw as it was too late in the am for shade. Not as deserted as you might think for May, kept behind one hiker and ahead of 3 others up to the saddle above the bowl where I turn right or south. A brief rainstorm last night left a small pool at the base of the waterfall , the rocks above it appeared wet where it had dripped down, water was not running down the bowl. On the way back noticed another half dozen hikers going up before I made the Crosscut Trail junction, just as I was turning I surprised a Gila Monster on the trail who “sprinted “ under a bush. Took a break in the graffiti cave , my term for it, on the way to Praying Hands a breeze made it a pleasant break stop. An already large cairn is growing in the saddle between the cave and Praying Hands, not sure why. Saw more hikers on the upper portion of Treasure Loop as I was coming down to it. Another good morning for hiking but getting a bit toasty in the afternoon. |
