Had a late start, about 0845 , the dog gave me a please take me for a walk look as I tried to sneak out earlier. Decided to opt for counterclockwise loop after starting at the Pass Mountain Trailhead in Usery Park, made an inspection of the new restroom at the trailhead and found all was working, by the way they closed the nearby restroom along the road , oh well I think it’s only tax payer dollars. May be it was the late start but very little activity on the trail, passed one other hiker doing a clockwise Loop,a couple of hikers turning around at the saddle above Meridian and was passed by a couple of trail runners along the way, unusual to have no bikes today. Checked in at one of the picnic tables for a snack near the Windcave Trailhead , after dousing my hat and neck scarf with water from the water fountain decided to go visit the Windcave .Even this trail had comparatively light traffic only about 10 hikers on the way down, one couple even knew trail etiquette , from the others the Tibber treatment. Had the Windcave to myself, eerily quiet whereas it usually reminds me of a day care center not even the buzzing bees were there, apparently they were busy with the palo verde and saguaro blooms, could have taken a nap but headed down instead.Nice to be treated on this hike to a cloud cover day in May. |
