| no partners | | We have been closely monitoring the surrounding areas to time this with the turning of the leaves. I've been in Bear Cyn multiple times and knew those oaks and maples would deliver.
D, knowing my eagerness at doing this in the autumn, came up with what we now call The Brewery Tour hike, starting at Hardscrabble, dropping into Bear Cyn from Oak Spring Trail, lunch n beer at Oak Spring, up the AZT-Walnut, out the 87 to THAT Brewery for post hike rewards.
The bigtooth maples were in their tequila sunrise glory, fluttering between shades of sherbet to raspberry in the light breeze. The oaks were in golden glory. Animal scat was again, prevalent. The creek was dry. The spring was a trickle and smelled of animals. We were again treated to a group of white tails foraging around the meadow where we took a beer break (explanation of pack weight ).
We ambled up the exposed, rocky switchbacks of Walnut Trail, lightly cursing the warm sun but thankful it was at our backs. Atop this section we found a nice shaded patch to have a snack and a brew break with views of Pine and sounds of the highway reminding us our brewery destination was near. We opted to cut through the forest opposed to taking the AZT out because we thought it'd be a faster option to reach those cold Arizona Trail Ales calling to us from the brewery.
The weather was mostly perfect aside from it being a tad warmer than we'd have liked. The Oak Spring section was the prettiest and I don't see myself tiring of this little canyon anytime soon.
At the brewery we met a fellow hiker who's completed the AZT and is now sectioning it for a yet to be named documentary film.
Another great day playing outside! |
