| no partners | | I've been meaning to get down to this area for some time now. This was the first weekend that it was cool enough for me to go below the rim for this one. I got a late start after sleeping in waiting for the temp to warm up.
The first part of the Oak Spring Trail from the Pine TH is a warm up, with the tread in generally good condition. After the Bradshaw Tank, it rises until the 3 mile mark. Here's where the views open up and you begin the descent. After the intersection with the Walnut Trail, I ran into a couple of trail pixies, trimming vegetation. I stopped for a moment an talked with Shawn and Tracy - @Sredfield @Paintninaz. Tracey is the Steward of this section of the AZT. Good to see you guys! Thanks for all the hard work.
I stopped to check out Oak Spring to find it was full and running.
I kicked up 4 deer getting a drink.
Next, I headed down Oak Spring Canyon with the goal of at least making it to the intersection with Pine Creek. The initial goal was to turn this into a loop going up Pine Creek Canyon. With the cool temps and shorter days, I didn't want to get caught in an off trail adventure in the dark.
I turned around at Pine Creek and retraced my steps.
As Arnold says, "Get To The Choppa!".... I mean, "I'll be back". |
