| no partners | | Parked at a small turnout on Hardscrabble Rd (room for 2 vehicles) and descended onto a lush, bear scat dotted trail into Bear Canyon (the other, other, Bear Cyn). The weather was excellent with fat cotton candy tufts rolling swiftly overhead, providing breezes on a humid, monsoon, summer day. Oak Spring was a slodgy puddle/pool, the "bathtub" was dry and active with bees. The meadow was dry and brittle but that didn't stop a white tail from dashing through. We ambled along a no-name trail to discover "picket post jr." where we enjoyed our breakfast before skirting along the edge a bit longer, satisfying that familiar, "Just up to that bend to see if there's a view." Thickening clouds had us err on the side of caution since the way home was back through the canyon and monsoon season has been thus far, unpredictable this summer. So regretfully but unapologetic, we turned back. This was my 3rd time here, although this time, the farthest and I'll say it again, "I'll be back" because in another 3-4 weeks, I suspect the rewards will be even greater than my 3 visits thus far. |
