| partners | | This was a short loop hike on the Reynold's Creek Trail #150 to check out Fall colors. Starting out up #150 from the trailhead we found the trail had some fairly recent maintenance work clearing brush and fallen logs from the trail. A small herd of cattle had helped with the trail clearing by browsing the vegetation down to the ground for a few feet on each side of the trail for maybe the first quarter mile. The falls had just a trickle of water. There were some nice red and yellow Fall colors but sparsely scattered up the canyon.
On the way back to the trailhead we encountered a young man, Tyler, who is the Forest Service Ranger overseeing grazing permits for the Payson and Young Ranger Districts. He lives in Young and works out of the Young Ranger Station which I thought had been closed. He informed us that the rancher had taken his cattle (7 head) out of the canyon a few days before.
Back at camp we had the coldest night of our 6 night camping trip with temps down to about 25 deg by morning and high winds gusting up to 40 mph. I couldn't get out of there fast enough that morning. |
