| partners | | I met Grasshopper at his camp on FR235 a half mile up the road from Cienega Spring in the Sierra Ancha the day after he had arrived. We would be there for 6 nights. I arrived early enough in the day for us to go on an exploratory hike on the hillside above camp. We wanted to check out a possible route to the top of the ridge for the next day and to search for what GH thought was an alcove in the rock outcroppings on the hillside with possible ruins. He had spotted it in a photo he had taken on a previous trip. Our exploration wasn't much of a success. We found the proposed route to the top of the ridge to be so steep it was beyond our risk acceptance limits. We never found the alcove. GH wanted to search for the alcove again the next day but after studying his photo I was convinced it was just a shadow. I'm not sure I convinced GH but he reluctantly agreed to explore in a different area the next day.  |
