| no partners | | | The weather has been so amazing with water available everywhere. It is nice to just carry a few liters on such a long hike and refill along the way. I did this hike a week earlier going in a counterclockwise direction, however, the downhill from the top of Cathedral Rock to Sabino is brutal on my old knees and I found coming down Bear Canyon much easier. The views up and down the East and West fork trails are amazing with the Pusch Ridge Wilderness to the right and the Santa Catalina Mountains to your left on the way down. There is also a great campsite on the AZT on the Westfork trail where I had just taken a young coworker out for her first backpacking trip. I think she enjoyed the hike as much as she did my mandatory hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps nightcap. |
