It's a trailhead that's solely dedicated to the Maricopa Trail. Very sparse. It was hard to spot in the dark. A handful of official parking spaces, but still plenty of room to park if they happened to all be taken (unlikely). Also had a kiosk with a map of the nearby sections of the trail and where they lead to.
From the trailhead I headed southbound, back to where Brian and I left off last weekend. This section of the trail doesn't have nearly as much single track as the section between White Tanks and the Sun Valley Parkway. Lots of jeep roads are followed, which isn't too bad. Just south of the trailhead there were a lot of spots where various trash dumps had taken place, with furniture, tires, etc. Saw a few ATVs riding the roads in the distance. There are a few sections where the vegetation has grown a lot and is very green. This will likely thin out as the temperatures climb into summer.
The views aren't super great, with the power lines around and some canal berms nearby, but the views of the surrounding mountains in the distance are nice. Lots of solitude, as well. Saw only a handful of bikers on my way back, no other hikers. |
