| no partners | | I decided to skip out on Saturday's rain only because thunderstorms were in the forecast. Turns out that didn't happen, so I should have gone out. Radmila had plans for her and Natasha on Sunday, so I decided to take Dmitri out with me for this one. We started at Lost Dutchman State Park and took the Jacob's Trail southbound until the junction with the Broadway Cave trail and turned back. Once we got back in the park, we took a little roundabout way back to the car to add an extra half mile. The trails in LDSP are quite a maze in some spots.
we started just after 7:30am, and there was still a lot of cloud cover at the top of Superstition Mountain. It cleared up a bit, and then the clouds began to roll back in again towards the end of the hike. The trail was pretty muddy in spots from Saturday's rain. About 3 miles in we saw a small herd of about 7 deer, all doe. Got some nice pictures this time. Two weeks in a row now saw deer on the trails.
Siphon Draw Trail on the way back was super crowded, so we took the Mountain Bike Trail to a few other trails back to the car. This was Dmitri's longest hike to date at over 8 miles. He kept up the pace the entire time and wasn't sore when we were done. He might be ready to do some longer hikes with me soon and get out on a more regular basis if I can get him out of bed early enough. |
