| partners | | Picking up from last Sunday, I decided to go back to the western Supes and hike up to the Broadway Cave for the first time ever. To add some mileage, I decided to hike the Lost Goldmine Trail from the Broadway Cave Trail over to Cloudview Road. The last time I had hiked that section of trail was a good 16 years ago or so, and I remember it was a cloudy day in August after a monsoon storm. It was cloudy, humid and wet, not typical conditions you associate with the Sonoran desert. Today was also a little atypical in the sense that everything was very green. but it was very sunny and dry. Very different conditions from the last time I was there.
Wally agreed to join for this hike since it's Supes and he hadn't hiked this section of trail in a while, also. We were the 2nd car at the TH, and the first at the cave. Nice views of the area and the saguaro forest below from up there. Looks like a mine shaft was filled in at the back of the cave. The trail up looks like it braids off in sections, but those sections seem to fade off fairly quickly and are spotty at best (I learned this on my way back down).
Before we got to the Lost Goldmine Trail, the crowds were on their way up. Saw barely anyone on the way out to Cloudview and back and then the half mile to the car saw more hikers than anyone else all day. No wildlife to speak of, but got a few interesting pics of the bomber from Falcon Field and the crowds on the Flatiron and Peak 5057. |
