With the Rain this week, I opted out of a Friday Hike and since I was going out on Sunday, I sent an invite to the crew. Tibber and Ambika came up with alternative loop to my proposal and it intrigued. Although I have hiked a part of the Massacre Falls Trail, I've never gone all the way to the Falls and I hadn't done the Tributaries that tibber was proposing for the return. I had some trepidation about potential crowds to the Falls on a Sunday, but the general public was trending towards shopping sprees this weekend, so I opted to go for it. My Optimism was for naught. :o

I slept in and for once, Mother Nature didn't put on a show in my absence, but when I got to the Crosscut TH, I was very lucky that someone was leaving. The Lot was full at 7:45. By the time tibber and Ambika set up the Shuttle at Horse Lot and came back, we just barely got them into the Lot at 8:20. Somehow, I tried to stay optimistic, hoping that at least half of the crowd was headed elsewhere. Well, I guess everybody got their shopping done on Saturday. It was a pretty steady stream of people going to the Falls. But, it was an absolutely gorgeous day, with clouds and brittlebush lighting up the landscape. And even if there were no Waterfall at the end, it really is a beautiful trail.

With the crowds, tibber opted to not go all the way to the Falls, (she's already seen them) but I went ahead and experienced them for the first time. The Falls weren't gushing, but still had a nice ribbon of water coming down, with a doggy play pool at the bottom. It is a beautiful area in there. Ambika joined me for a bit and then we left the party and headed back. We started to hike back down and we made a decision to cut out the loop and just do an out and back today. There was an endless line of people still heading up and by the time we got back to the TH, we were pretty done. I could not believe the amount of cars lined up on the road. No more weekends for me in this area unless I start at the crack of dawn and I'm getting way, way out from a TH. 3 Miles isn't nearly far enough.

But it was a good day and tibber and Ambika were good company as always! Another crossed off the Wish List. :)

Wildflowers Observation Moderate
Brittlebush is almost substantial, but not quite. About a week or so from being substantial to extreme in this area. Some nice pockets of Lupine, a bit of Globe Mallow and others, including a spot of Owl Clover. Poppies are still pretty much a no show.
