| no partners | | I hiked out to the Massacre Falls area late yesterday afternoon to see how this area fared with the fire.
A mixed report. Some areas really got roasted and others survived without any damage.
The area around the trailhead is really bad. I am guessing that is mostly from backburning to prevent the fire from jumping First Water Road.
Once you reach the Wilderness boundary, the damage subsides once you get to the little canyon below the plateau. That area did not burn at all and is still really overgrown. But, once you climb up to the plateau area below the falls, the damage is really bad. You can see the path the fire took down from the top of the mountain.
All of the area around the falls is burnt up pretty good. But, somehow, the area directly below the falls survived. I imagine there will be a nice falls to see when the rains come, but there will be a bunch of nasty fire debris coming over the falls for a while, I'd guess.
So, better than expected, but still sad to see how much of this area was roasted. |
