The approach was waist high fox tales and steep, so that was fun. The climbing was a little greasy from the heat and taxing in the heat, which led to the overall stoutness of the route. We thought we might catch some shade with an early start, but as it turned out our route baked all morning and did not see full shade until nearly noon. However, we did enjoy some shade on the third pitch and fourth.
Sean led all the pitches and I followed. I hung like a dog through most of the third pitch. A great pitch of climbing, but a little stout for me. We reached the bottom in three raps and then slid down on foxtails back to the maintained trail. The hike out did not feel as warm as earlier parts of the day and we made really good time.
Overall, a great route to end the season on in the Supes. Getting it done in the heat added a nice sense of accomplishment to this one. A bit of a gut check at times. I would probably rank it as the best climb I have done In the Supes in my limited time out there.
Cold Fever, 5.10a, 4 pitches. |
