Instead, due to a fun boondoggle up to an alcove up on the Ridge, we only went to first water creek falls and then headed back to complete the rest of the Treasure Loop. I was with two people new to off trail adventures, so it made for some slow going, but we still had a good time. I think they enjoyed the climbing and lack of people.
We started at 8 am from the Cholla lot in Lost Dutchman (friend has a pass, yippee!), and there was no one around. It was a chill 45F out. Even after our boondoggle, we still saw relatively few people headed out to first water creek falls, which was flowing. On the way back, once we got on the main trail heading back, we started to pick up a lot of people. By praying hands, there were tons of people as is expected on an easier trail in the superstitions on a Saturday.
This is my first time to first water creek falls. I wanted to wait until we had some rain, so I would be able to see it flowing. It wasn't a deluge, but it was a steady medium flow.
A great day with friends, perfect weather, and amazing views of snowy 4 Peaks with fog lifting throughout the day. There were also 5 rock climbers climbing praying hands which was fun to watch. A magical day! |
