We started from Washington Park hiking up to the Rim. Then we hopped on FR 300 but soon found that parts of the General Crook Trail had been cleared which made for a pleasant hike over to Bear Canyon. We hiked along the rim for a bit before dropping into Bear Canyon. Plenty of water in Bear with the usual open meadows and occasional pools.
Down canyon we eventually exited Bear and hopped Fred Haught Ridge and into Fred Haught Canyon. No water at first in Fred Haught but not too long before we started to see some flow and eventually some decent pools where we took a lunch break. After lunch we continued down Fred Haught Canyon just before reaching the Cabin Loop trail we came upon a fire ring that was still smoking. Even crazier is that there was plenty of water 50 feet away in the creek not to mention there is also a fire ban. John and I grabbed the empty containers that we had with us to drown the fire. The coals were so hot it took several trips to completely drown it. Too bad some people just don't give a crap
After that we made good time on the next 5 miles of good trail on the Cabin Loop. One last break before the rim and then back down to Washington Park. There was 50% chance of thunderstorms but we had mostly sunny skies all day
